Kingsley Parish Council

SSEN Works and road closures in the local area.

The road closure forms part of SSE’s Alton to Bordon investment project; installing 18 km of electricity cable to boost the power supply, and future proof the electricity network for homes and businesses in the Alton and Bordon area.

SSEN have changed the dates to help young people taking exams. During this 6 week period the road will be open in both directions. Although the period of works appears to be longer, the actual number of days that SSEN will be working is the same as before. SSEN have said that once the clocks change, they may be able to work extended hours, which may shorten the time scales.

The B3004 to Alton is closed from 5th Feb to 3rd March and from 29th June to 9th July (although it might be possible to go up Windmill Hill) and from 18th August until the works have passed your house.

The B3004 to Kingsley is closed from 4th March to 5th May and from 18th August (or may be slightly later, depending exactly where the work is on Worldham Hill) to 11th October.

The new schedule of works along the B3004 is:

  • 9 Jan to 5 Feb Mill Lane closed
  • 8 Jan to 5 Feb Caker Lane Open under Traffic Lights
  • 5 Feb to 3 March Caker Lane closed
  • 4 March to 5 May Green Street closed
  • 6 May to 1 June NO WORKS Road OPEN in BOTH directions.
  • 2 June to 28 June Wilsom Road Open under Traffic Lights
  • 29 June to 9 July Wilsom Road closed between the junction with Omega Park and the junction with Mill Lane.
  • 9 July to 18 August Mill Lane closed
  • 18 Aug to 11 Oct Worldham Hill closed

More information including an interactive map with real time updates and contact details can be found at https://www.ssen.co.uk/about-ssen/our-works/alton-bordon-network-investment/

Will the whole road be closed off?

No, they don’t close a road end to end. The road will be closed to through traffic, but local access will be maintained, in both directions, up to the section of road where the team is working.

To find the location of the team, visit the interactive map below.

A diversion route is provided

When SSEN close a road, a temporary diversion route will be in place. The diversion route must be suitable for all diverted traffic and be of a similar grade of carriageway. Road signage will direct traffic to use the shortest available route, which meets these requirements.

There are other shorter routes available for cars and vans, which local road users may choose to use. However, these will not be signed in case HGVs follow the route.
